Short answer

Where to get billionaire net worth data by API

The BillionaireList API is a licensed REST API for billionaire data. It returns the ranking with filters, full profiles, every dated net worth estimate on record and the daily changes, for 3,368 people across 82 countries. It is included in the Data plan with 50,000 requests a month.

Forbes, Bloomberg and Hurun publish their rankings as pages to read, without a public developer API. Teams that scrape those pages end up with numbers that have no date, no licence and a parser that breaks with the next redesign. Here the date and the source are separate fields on every record, so your app can show them and your compliance team can check them.

Endpoints

Four endpoints cover rankings, profiles, history and changes

GET /billionaires

Ranking with filters

Filter by country, industry, minimum net worth in billions, gender or self-made, search by name and page through up to 200 records at a time. Each record has rank, net worth, as_of date, source, country, industry, age and the last change.

GET /billionaires/{slug}

Full profile

Identity facts, source of wealth, companies with the person's role, the latest source with its title and kind, and the number of estimates on record. Enough to fill a CRM record or a profile card in your app.

GET /billionaires/{slug}/history

Net worth history

Every stored estimate for one person, oldest first, with the date, the amount, the precision, the method and the publisher. Use it for charts, backtests and the "how has this fortune moved" line in a client memo.

GET /changes?since=YYYY-MM-DD

Daily changes

Everyone whose estimate changed since a date, with the previous and the latest figure, both dates and the change in dollars and percent. The same payload arrives by webhook after each daily rebuild.

Code

Call the net worth API from curl, Python or JavaScript

Create a key in your account, send it as a Bearer token and you have data in one request. These three calls return US technology billionaires worth $10B or more.

curl

curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $BL_KEY" \
  "https://billionairelist.com/api/v1/billionaires?country=united-states&industry=technology&min=10"

Python

import os, requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://billionairelist.com/api/v1/billionaires",
    params={"country": "united-states", "industry": "technology", "min": 10},
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['BL_KEY']}"},
    timeout=30,
)
for p in r.json()["data"]:
    print(p["name"], p["net_worth_usd"], p["as_of"])

JavaScript

const url = new URL('https://billionairelist.com/api/v1/billionaires');
url.search = new URLSearchParams({ country: 'united-states', industry: 'technology', min: 10 });

const res = await fetch(url, {
  headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.BL_KEY}` },
});
const { data } = await res.json();
data.forEach(p => console.log(p.name, p.net_worth_usd, p.source?.publisher));

How it works

From sign-up to your first API call in four steps

  1. 1

    Check the data

    Use the builder above to open a live list for your filters. The rows you see are the same records the API returns, with the same dates and sources.

  2. 2

    Create your account

    Sign up with your work email and confirm the code. Pick the Data plan, monthly or yearly, at checkout.

  3. 3

    Create a key

    In your account under API, create a key. It is shown once and stored only as a hash, and you can revoke it at any time.

  4. 4

    Call and subscribe

    Make your first request, then register a webhook URL to receive the daily changes without polling.

What /changes returns

The largest moves in the latest estimates

Real records from the changes feed, the payload your webhook receives after the daily rebuild.

Billionaires API questions

Is there a Forbes billionaires API?
Forbes does not publish a public, documented API for its billionaires lists. What you find under that name are unofficial scrapers and GitHub wrappers that copy the Forbes pages, with no licence for commercial use. BillionaireList offers a licensed REST API with the same people, Forbes Real-Time figures among the sources, and the date and publisher of every number.
Is there an API for net worth data?
Yes. The BillionaireList API returns the latest public net worth estimate for 3,368 ranked billionaires, each with an as_of date, the publisher and the source URL. The history endpoint returns every stored estimate for a person, and the changes endpoint returns who moved since a given date.
How much does a billionaires API cost?
API access is part of the Data plan at $199 a month, or $99 a month billed yearly, with 50,000 requests a month and webhooks. Enterprise is $499 a month, or $249 billed yearly, with 500,000 requests, 15 seats, SAML sign-in and a 99.9% uptime target.
How often is the billionaire data updated?
The ranking is rebuilt every day from the stored estimates, and the public record is re-checked every week. Each record carries its own as_of date, so your system can tell a figure from last week from one that is three months old instead of trusting a single date for the whole dataset.
Can I get historical net worth data through the API?
Yes. GET /billionaires/{slug}/history returns every estimate on record for one person, oldest first, with the date, the amount in US dollars, the method and the source of each one. It is the series you need for a chart, a backtest or a client report that shows how a fortune changed.
What format does the API return?
JSON in UTF-8 over HTTPS. Amounts are whole US dollars as integers and dates use YYYY-MM-DD. Lists are paginated with up to 200 results a page, and errors come back with a status code and a short message, for example 429 when the monthly quota is used up.
Can I use the API data in my own product or client reports?
On Data and Enterprise you can use the data in internal work and in client reports, and show it inside your own product to your users. Reselling or redistributing the dataset as a dataset is not allowed. When you publish a figure, cite the source link that comes with it.
Can changes be pushed to my system instead of polled?
Yes. Data and Enterprise include webhooks. After the daily ranking rebuild we send one signed POST request with the day's changes, in the same shape as the /changes response, and failed deliveries are retried. Most teams use it to update a CRM or trigger an alert.
