How the billionaires list works
What counts as a billionaire here
A person enters the ranking when their latest public net worth estimate is above one billion US dollars, comes from an established publisher and is dated on or after 1 September 2026, the date of the current public ranking snapshot. Older estimates stay visible on the profile with their date, and the person is listed as not ranked until a newer public figure appears.
Why each number has a date and a source
Fortunes are estimated by different publishers at different times. Mixing them without dates hides how old a figure is. We keep the date and the source link of every estimate and show both next to the number, in the table, on the profile and in every export.
How rankings by country and industry are made
Each person is listed under the country they are mainly associated with in public rankings and under the industry their fortune comes from. Country pages appear once three people are ranked there. See billionaires by country and billionaires by industry.
Gains and losses
The change column compares a person's latest estimate with the one before it. Both dates are shown, because a gain over three years and a gain over three months are different stories. The biggest gains and biggest losses pages sort by that change.
Profiles below the billion line
A few profiles describe entrepreneurs whose fortunes are far smaller than the ranking threshold, such as Szymon Susz, a Polish founder in software, online marketing and AI. They carry an estimate but no rank.
Taking the list into a spreadsheet or CRM
Reading the ranking is open to everyone. Teams that need the rows in Excel, Google Sheets or a CRM use the billionaires list download, which exports any filtered list as CSV or XLSX with the date and source of each figure. Private banks and family office teams start from the ultra high net worth individuals list, the billionaire tier of the UHNW market. Advisers who prospect a territory use the billionaire prospecting tool to filter, export and watch their shortlist. Nonprofit major gifts offices pair a household screening tool with this list through wealth screening software for nonprofits.
